4castplus Resource Types Explained
When it comes to using resources on projects, there are 5 unique types of resources available in 4castplus:
- Labor
- Equipment
- Materials
- Services
- Expenses
Resources are the items that are used throughout the life of the project from estimating to cost tracking, procurement, reporting, etc. Each of those resource types has its own item database in 4castplus to be used in planning and execution of a project. These databases are configured in a hierarchical structure where you can categorize the items in a multi-tier classification that can be coded at each level. The effort to create this classification scheme is typically done during the implementation of 4castplus, so is preconfigured prior to using the system.
You can also preconfigure the cost rates for each resource in the database. For example, the standard cost rate for 20mm crushed gravel might be $138/m3. Or the cost rate for a Senior Site Foreman might be $78/hr. All these standardized rates can be preconfigured in the rate tables that can be attached to the project.
Once this is all setup, it can be used in the following:
- Estimating. Building up resource-level estimates using standards and norms.
- Procurement. Whether creating purchase orders or subcontracts, you can add PO items of equipment, materials and services.
- Cost tracking. Whether tracking by timesheet, PO receipt, expense tracking, etc., the system will use these resources and rates to calculate the cost and/or billable values to recognize on the project.
